Recently Diagnosed or Relapsed? Stop Looking For a Miracle Cure, and Use Evidence-Based Therapies To Enhance Your Treatment and Prolong Your Remission

Multiple Myeloma an incurable disease, but I have spent the last 25 years in remission using a blend of conventional oncology and evidence-based nutrition, supplementation, and lifestyle therapies from peer-reviewed studies that your oncologist probably hasn't told you about.

Can Myeloma Fractures Heal?

Share Button

Can myeloma fractures heal? Yes, they can, though it is more difficult for bones to heal as we age. Or I should say that fractures that healed quickly when we were young now take longer to heal, if at all.

The video linked below is titled “Do bone fractures from myeloma ever heal?” Yet the first few minutes of the videos talk about “lytic lesions” and not fractures. This video reminded me to separate the two types of bone damage that MM can cause.

And those three issues are:

  1. lytic lesions- holes in your bones caused by the MM itself-
  2. bone fractures- a fracture of the bone itself-

Can either lytic lesions or bone fractures heal? Yes. As we age, however, the healing process can take longer than when we were young, and the patient must be in remission. Meaning, there can be no plasma cells in the lesion.

I am a long-term MM survivor. I’ve learned that conventional oncology will rarely if ever, talk about non-conventional therapies such as those therapies listed below.

This shouldn’t be a surprise. Oncologists don’t learn about non-conventional therapies. The FDA doesn’t study or approve therapies such as exercise, nutrition, protein supplements, etc.

Email me at David.PeopleBeatingCancer@gmail.com with questions about managing your MM or to learn more about both conventional and non-conventional MM therapies.

Good luck,

How to Heal Bones Faster

Healing a broken bone takes time, but, in terms of how to heal bones faster, three major themes of bone healing apply,” says Dr. Dewan.

The three key steps to faster bone healing are:

  1. Alignment of the broken bone fragments
  2. Stability and support at the fracture site through immobilization
  3. Healthy lifestyle choices that promote healing

3 ways to heal bones faster

It’s much easier for a bone to heal if the two fragments are aligned with one another. In some cases, the bone breaks and the fragments stay in line. In other cases, the bone fragments displace during the break, becoming unaligned, and your doctor has to manually reset them.

“Ensuring proper alignment of the bone fragments is an important first step. And while proper alignment must be maintained throughout the course of healing, it’s the next two steps that become your main focus for the coming weeks. Unfortunately, these are the ones that can be hard to stay disciplined about,” explains Dr. Dewan.

After breaking a bone, you leave the clinic with some gear and plenty of instructions. Your best bet for how to heal faster? Use the gear, follow the instructions — no exceptions.

Take protein supplements

As a large part of a bone is composed of protein, taking protein supplements can help the bone to rebuild and heal itself.

People with a protein deficit may develop a rubbery callus around the fracture instead of a solid callus.

Take antioxidants

Antioxidants remove free radicals that are generated by tissue damage. Because bone fractures cause tissue damage, taking antioxidant supplements may help with bone healing.

People can find antioxidants in supplements that contain vitamins E and C, lycopene, and alpha-lipoic acid.

Take mineral supplements

Bone is mostly composed of minerals, including calcium, silicon, magnesium, phosphorus, and zinc. People may find that their bone heals faster if they increase their intake of these minerals.

These supplements may speed up callus formation, increase the production of bone protein, and accelerate the bone healing process.

Take vitamin supplements

Vitamins are also essential for bone rebuilding as they promote most of the cellular processes and reactions that occur in bone.

Vitamins C, D, and K play vital roles in the fracture healing process. Vitamin B is essential for energy production.

Take herbal supplements

People can also use herbal supplements to speed fracture healing.

Some people say that Symphytum (comfrey), arnica, and horsetail grass are potentially helpful herbs. However, always use herbs with caution, as large amounts of these herbs can be toxic.

Exercise

Always speak to a doctor before using exercise as a way to speed up bone healing, as it will only be appropriate at certain stages of the healing process.

However, if performed under a doctor’s supervision, exercise can improve blood flow to the injured site, help to rebuild muscle around it, and speed up bone fracture healing. Furthermore, some people may regain limb function through exercise.

Oral administration of Lactobacillus casei Shirota improves recovery of hand functions after distal radius fracture among elder patients: a placebo-controlled, double-blind, and randomized trial

Abstract

Background: To evaluate the effect of oral Lactobacillus casei Shirota (LcS) administration on recovery of hand functions in senior patients diagnosed with an acute distal radius fracture.

Methods: This clinical trial is double-blind and placebo-controlled, in which 293 senior patients with distal radius fracture were initially enrolled. After exclusion, 264 eligible patients were randomly assigned to receive oral placebo or LcS daily for a period of 3 months after the fracture. Treatment outcomes were Michigan Hand Questionnaire (MHQ) score, radial deviation and inclination, and ulnar deviation and variance, all of which were monitored and measured every month.

Results: Throughout the length of this study, MHQ score, radial deviation and inclination, and ulnar deviation and variance of patients on oral LcS displayed a significantly faster improvement in comparison to those receiving placebo, over the 3-month intervention period.

Conclusion: Oral administration of LcS dramatically accelerated hand function recovery in senior patients with distal radius fracture.
