“There is evidence to indicate cannabis in the treatment of pain, spasticity, seizures, sleep disorders, nausea and vomiting, and Tourette syndrome…”

Hello David- I am currently researching Multiple Myeloma so that I can help my dad who was diagnosed two years ago.  I would love for him to try the CBD oil and/or a combination of CBD and THC but I am unsure of where to purchase the CBD oil.

Do you have any recommendations?  I know that in order for him to have a mixture of the two he would probably need to obtain his medical marijuana license.

CBD oil is sold in almost every vape shop but I want to ensure it is a quality CBD oil and from a reputable source.  Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!  Angie

Hi Angie-

I will cut and paste your questions below so that I can reply fully to each. Let me know if you have any other questions.

1) “Hello David- I am currently researching MM so that I can help my dad who was diagnosed two years ago.”
I am sorry to read of your dad’s MM diagnosis two years ago. I will be able to provide you with more helpful, more specific information to you if you can give me some of your dad’s specifics:
A) what was his stage at diagnosis?
B) what were his symptoms at diagnosis? Fatigue, bone damage, kidney damage?
C) How old is your dad? How is his health otherwise?
I don’t mean to sound nosey. Just trying to understand your dad’s needs.
2) ” I would love for him to try the CBD oil and/or a combination of CBD and THC…”
The articles linked below explain that CBD oil, or cannabinoids, are:
  • cytotoxic to MM
  • enhance the efficacy of MM chemotherapy regimens such as Velcade
  • improve bone health, heal bone fractures
  • help other side effects such as nausea, bone pain-
3) ” I am unsure of where to purchase the CBD oil.  Do you have any recommendations?”
Because every state in the U.S. has different laws governing medical marijuana aka CBD oil, I can give you only general recommendations. You will have to apply these general recommendations to your state, your situation.
First and foremost, you must live in a state that has legalized marijuana for health purposes-
If this is the case, you should find a dispensary that sells CBD oil with high percentages of cannabinoids-
THC is a cannabinoid. Your goal is a high percentage of cannabinoid strain with a low percentage of THC-
Every state, every dispensary may carry different “strains” of CBD oil. There is no one single national brand of CBD oil.
4) ” I know that in order for him to have a mixture of the two he would probably need to obtain his medical marijuana license. “
You are correct. If your state requires a doctor’s prescription, he will need to obtain his MM license. In addition, I have to mention that many of the cancer survivors I work with who use CBD tell me that too much THC makes then really high. And most don’t like the feeling of being really high.
5) ” CBD oil is sold in almost every vape shop but I want to ensure it is a quality CBD oil and from a reputable source.”
I agree with your thinking, your instincts. My experience is that the local dispensary is knowledgeable about vaping, about recreational MM but less knowledgeable about CBD oil for cancer patients. It is worth your while to look for a dispensary with people behind the counter who can help you.
Angie- I think I’ve addressed all of your questions- let me know if you need more info.
Good luck,

These results showed that CBD by itself or in synergy with BORT strongly inhibited growth, arrested cell cycle progression and induced MM cells death by regulating the ERK, AKT and NF-κB pathways with major effects in TRPV2+ cells. These data provide a rationale for using CBD to increase the activity of proteasome inhibitors in MM…

No bones about it: Cannabis may be used to treat fractures

“We found that CBD alone makes bones stronger during healing, enhancing the maturation of the collagenous matrix, which provides the basis for new mineralization of bone tissue,” said Dr. Gabet. “After being treated with CBD, the healed bone will be harder to break in the future.”
