Recently Diagnosed or Relapsed? Stop Looking For a Miracle Cure, and Use Evidence-Based Therapies To Enhance Your Treatment and Prolong Your Remission

Multiple Myeloma an incurable disease, but I have spent the last 25 years in remission using a blend of conventional oncology and evidence-based nutrition, supplementation, and lifestyle therapies from peer-reviewed studies that your oncologist probably hasn't told you about.

Home Remedies for Neuropathy from Chemo aka CIPN

Home Remedies for Neuropathy from Chemo are both natural treatments as well as relatively inexpensive. I do/have done all 6

The home remedies for neuropathy from chemo discussed below may not actually be “home remedies” in the traditional sense of the expression but they are remedies that can be practiced at home if the patient prefers. Not only is CIPN (nerve damage) painful but the study below documents how expensive this dreaded side effect can be to cancer patients and survivors.

I have good news and bad news about chemotherapy-induced nerve damage. The bad news is that CIPN is

  • painful
  • expensive

The good news is that many cases of CIPN heal once the offending chemotheray regimen is discontinued. Also, there are natural or home remedies to reduce or even eliminate this painful side effect.

My guess is the real reason why you are reading this post is to discover possible therapies to heal the burning and/or numbness on your hands and feet. Keep in mind that there is no one single total cure for this painful side effect. The posts in the “recommended reading” section below have been researched and written over the past decade. In my experience, the three articles linked below provide the most complete spectrum of therapies discussed- from nutritional supplementation to low-level light therapy.

Are you experiencing CIPN? What chemotherapy regimens have you taken? When did you begin experiencing symptoms? To learn more about CIPN therapies, scroll down the page, post a question or a comment and I will reply to you ASAP.

Hang in there,

How to treat peripheral neuropathy naturally

“As neuropathy often affects the hands and feet, the symptoms may begin in these areas. However, peripheral nerves are all over the body, so it is possible to have symptoms elsewhere and to have various symptoms in multiple locations.

Certain natural treatments may help ease some of the symptoms. In some cases, natural interventions may help prevent further nerve damage…

1. Exercise

Exercise promotes muscle tone, and this may reduce some symptoms of neuropathy.

2. Dietary changes

eating antioxidant-rich foods, such as blueberries, walnuts, fatty fish, and flaxseed oil, which may combat inflammation

eating high fiber foods and foods that the body absorbs slowly, such as certain vegetables, fruits, and nuts

eating fewer than 2,300 milligrams of sodium per day

limiting saturated and trans fats

reducing or eliminating alcohol intake

3. Quitting smoking

Smoking is a risk factor for peripheral neuropathy because it narrows and damages peripheral blood vessels.

It can also worsen symptoms of this nerve damage, even when another condition or lifestyle factor is the primary cause of the neuropathy…

4. Vitamins

B-complex vitamins

  • Vitamin E:
  • Acetyl-l-carnitine (ALC):
  • Alpha-lipoic acid:
  • Omega-3 fatty acids:
  • N-acetylcysteine:
  • Magnesium and calcium:
  • Glutamine:

5. Relaxation techniques

Relaxation techniques may help a person better manage pain from neuropathy. Deep breathing, meditation, and progressive relaxation may offer some relief.

Some relaxation techniques, such as yoga, tai chi, and blend stretching, may reduce stress and improve posture, easing some of the painful effects of neuropathy…

6. Alternative medicine

Some people with peripheral neuropathy try alternative medicine, including acupuncture, chiropractic techniques, and energy-based modalities, such as Reiki…”

Peripheral Neuropathy Significantly Adds to Cost Burden of Multiple Myeloma

“Peripheral neuropathy (PN) is a common adverse event associated with multiple myeloma (MM) when treated with older-generation proteasome inhibitors. In addition to impacting quality of life for patients, the complication is also associated with an added cost burden, according to a new study.

Drawing on 10 years’ worth of data, researchers found that patients with MM who developed PN had costs that were $1509 higher per month compared with patients with MM who did not develop the complication, amounting to $36,216 over 2 years of follow-up…

Costs were significantly higher for patients with Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy (CIPN) during the first line of therapy ($23,183 vs $20,790) and second line of therapy ($37,880 vs $29,694)…
