Writing about a chronic disease like cirrhosis of the liver is a bit outside of PeopleBeatingCancer’s mission to demystify cancer. The path from cancer survivor (me) to cirrhosis is actually pretty direct. Let me explain.
My aggressive toxic chemotherapies in ’95 did a fair amount of damage to my liver. Other organs too but for the sake of this post I am focusing on my liver. Years of research into the health benefits of curcumin led to studies citing the ability of this golden spice to heal the liver. Also, cirrhosis of the liver increases your risk of liver cancer. I began to view cirrhosis as a form of pre-liver cancer.
The bottom line is that if you have cirrhosis of the liver you should supplement with curcumin. I supplement with a brand of curcumin called Life Extension Super Bio-Curcumin for several reasons. Super BC has been evaluated and approved by Consumerlab.com. Super BC is comprised of BCM-95, a formula that has demonstrated superior bioavailability.

“CUR is a phytophenolic compound, which is highly efficacious for treating several inflammatory diseases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of CUR in preventing or reversing liver cirrhosis…
CUR also partially reversed the fibrosis induced by CCl(4). CUR was effective in preventing and reversing cirrhosis, probably by its ability of reducing TGF-beta expression. These data suggest that CUR might be an effective antifibrotic and fibrolitic drug in the treatment of chronic hepatic diseases…”
