While the COVID virus is concerning for MM patients, long COVID symptoms can be even more concerning. Anyone living with long COVID symptoms should consider paxlovid and vitamins according to the research linked below.
Multiple myeloma patients and survivors live with compromised immune systems can should understand that their immune system is compromised and that they are more susceptible to both covid and long-covid.
Vitamin supplements shown to treat long COVID symptom-
1. Vitamin D
- Potential benefits: Vitamin D plays a role in immune regulation and inflammation reduction. Deficiency in vitamin D has been associated with worse outcomes in COVID-19 patients, and it is theorized that supplementation may help in recovery and immune support in long COVID.
- Studies: Some studies suggest that adequate vitamin D levels may reduce the severity of fatigue and inflammation, though no conclusive data directly ties it to resolving long COVID symptoms yet.
2. Vitamin C
- Potential benefits: Vitamin C is known for its antioxidant properties and role in supporting the immune system. It may help reduce oxidative stress and inflammation, both of which are often elevated in long COVID.
- Studies: There are few direct studies on vitamin C’s impact on long COVID, but it is sometimes recommended for supporting recovery due to its general immune-boosting and anti-inflammatory effects.
3. B Vitamins (B1, B6, B12)
- Potential benefits: B vitamins play a critical role in energy production, neurological function, and reducing fatigue, which are common complaints in long COVID.
- Studies: While studies specifically targeting long COVID are limited, B vitamins have been suggested for improving energy levels and cognitive function (brain fog) based on their roles in cellular metabolism and nervous system support.
4. Zinc
- Potential benefits: Zinc supports the immune system and has anti-inflammatory effects. It’s thought to help in viral recovery and reducing symptoms like fatigue and cognitive issues.
- Studies: Zinc has been studied in acute COVID-19, with some positive effects on immune response. However, its role in long COVID is not well established yet.
5. Magnesium
- Potential benefits: Magnesium helps with muscle function, mood regulation, and reducing fatigue. It may aid with sleep and muscle aches, two common symptoms of long COVID.
- Studies: Some anecdotal reports suggest magnesium can help with muscle weakness and fatigue, though formal studies on long COVID specifically are lacking.
6. Omega-3 Fatty Acids (Fish Oil)
- Potential benefits: Omega-3s have anti-inflammatory properties that may help mitigate the chronic inflammation seen in long COVID.
- Studies: There are no direct studies linking omega-3 supplementation to improvements in long COVID, but its role in reducing inflammation makes it a possible supportive therapy.
7. Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10)
- Potential benefits: CoQ10 is involved in cellular energy production and may help reduce fatigue.
- Studies: Some researchers have suggested that CoQ10 supplementation may be beneficial in addressing post-viral fatigue syndromes, but more studies are needed to confirm its efficacy in long COVID.
8. N-Acetylcysteine (NAC)
- Potential benefits: NAC is a precursor to glutathione, a potent antioxidant that helps with reducing oxidative stress and inflammation.
- Studies: NAC is being studied for its potential role in treating oxidative stress-related conditions, and some preliminary evidence suggests it might help with fatigue and other symptoms in long COVID.
9. Melatonin
- Potential benefits: Melatonin is a hormone that regulates sleep, and it has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It may help with sleep disturbances and reduce inflammation.
- Studies: Some research is ongoing, but melatonin has shown potential benefits in reducing inflammation and improving sleep in people with long COVID.

I am a long-term MM survivor. I take many vitamin supplements shown to either/or fight MM of help me manage some of the long-term side effects that I developed following conventional FDA approved conventional myeloma therapies. So I am already open to the idea of vitamin supplements managing both COVID and long COVID.
If you would like more information about nutritional supplements shown to be cytotoxic to MM email me at David.PeopleBeatingCancer@gmail.com

“Paxlovid, an antiviral approved last year to treat acute infections of COVID-19, is showing great potential as a new treatment for long COVID and may be the most promising experimental therapy now being studied for treating the condition.
New research offers strong evidence that Paxlovid provides significant benefits for COVID-19 patients who are at high risk for severe or prolonged disease, particularly older adults and those who are immunocompromised…
Some patients have also benefitted from supplements such as N-acetyl cysteine (NAC), as well as vitamins B, C, D and alpha lipoic acid, in which the risks are low and there are potential benefits…
- A study published last year by JAMA Internal Medicine reviewed the charts of nearly 300,000 veterans with severe acute COVID infections. The study found that Paxlovid treatment reduced the likelihood of developing long COVID.
- But a more recent study at Stanford University, Palo Alto, California — the STOP-PASC trial— did not find Paxlovid improved symptoms when given to 155 patients who had already recovered from acute infection.
- Participants with long COVID symptoms — and who had on average recovered from acute infection around 16 months earlier — were given a 15-day course of Paxlovid. Common symptoms like fog, fatigue, and cardiovascular or gastrointestinal symptoms did not improve…
However, long COVID likely has multiple drivers. Viral persistence may still be at play for a subset of patients. This means that despite the fact that patients recover from acute infection, hidden reservoirs of SARS-CoV-2 are still present in the body, possibly bringing on long COVID symptoms. Which means Paxlovid may help some long COVID patients but not others, Sanders explained…
Low-Risk, High-Reward Supplements
Some of Sanders’ colleagues at Yale are focusing on long COVID’s neurological symptoms and neuropathogenesis. There’s evidence showing these symptoms — notably brain fog — can be treated with supplements…
Though NAC can treat respiratory problems, it’s also commonly used to treat postconcussion symptoms. Fesharaki-Zadeh found that it helps treat brain fog, increases energy, and improves memory…
‘Mitochondrial Enhancement’ Through Vitamins
Sanders has also used a combination of alpha lipoic acid and vitamin C, and a combo of B vitamins that make up what’s called a “mitochondrial enhancement regimen…”
As Sanders noted in her long COVID blog, which tracks the latest research and treatment options for doctors who treat long COVID patients, previous studies have shown low vitamin D levels may not only increase the risk for severe COVID-19 but delay recovery from long COVID. Those without long COVID had higher levels of vitamin D compared with long COVID patients. Vitamin D is known to boost the immune system… long covid paxlovid vitamins long covid paxlovid vitamins
