Recently Diagnosed or Relapsed? Stop Looking For a Miracle Cure, and Use Evidence-Based Therapies To Enhance Your Treatment and Prolong Your Remission

Multiple Myeloma an incurable disease, but I have spent the last 25 years in remission using a blend of conventional oncology and evidence-based nutrition, supplementation, and lifestyle therapies from peer-reviewed studies that your oncologist probably hasn't told you about.

Melatonin, Kidney Health and Myeloma

According to research, melatonin may enhance kidney health in Myeloma patients. This may be helpful because as many as 50% of newly diagnosed MM patients present with kidney involvement.

Melatonin, a hormone naturally produced by the body, has been studied for its potential benefits for kidney health.

Potential Benefits:

    • Antioxidant and Anti-inflammatory Effects:

Melatonin possesses antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that may protect the kidneys from oxidative stress and inflammation, which are associated with kidney damage.

    • Reduced Oxidative Stress:

Melatonin can reduce the production of harmful free radicals in the kidneys, thus preventing oxidative stress-induced damage.

  • Improved Blood Pressure Regulation:

Melatonin may help regulate blood pressure, which is a crucial factor in kidney health.

  • Protection from Kidney Stones:

Melatonin may inhibit the formation of kidney stones by reducing the accumulation of calcium oxalate crystals.

  • Delayed Progression of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD):

Studies in animal models suggest that melatonin may slow down the progression of CKD by reducing inflammation and oxidative stress.

Limitations and Considerations:

  • Limited Clinical Evidence:

While preclinical studies have shown promising results, there is limited clinical evidence to support the use of melatonin for kidney health in humans.

  • Interactions with Other Medications:

Melatonin may interact with certain medications, such as blood thinners and antidepressants. It is essential to consult a healthcare professional before taking melatonin if you are on any medications.

  • Dosage and Safety:

The appropriate dosage of melatonin for kidney health varies depending on individual needs. It is recommended to consult a healthcare professional for guidance.

Conclusion:

Melatonin may have potential benefits for kidney health by reducing oxidative stress, inflammation, and blood pressure. However, more clinical research is needed to confirm these effects in humans. It is important to consult a healthcare professional before using melatonin for kidney health, especially if you have any underlying medical conditions or are taking any medications.

There are few, if any, FDA-approved medications that MM patients can take to help their kidney involvement. In addition, there are many FDA-approved SOC therapies for the treatment of MM that can damage the kidneys.
So, newly diagnosed MM patients who present with kidney involvement may focus on treating their MM at the expense of their kidney health.
My experience as a long-term MM survivor is that conventional oncology focuses on MM. This is a positive for managing your MM, but may be a problem for you if you are also dealing with kidney involvement.
Are you a newly diagnosed MM patient? Have you also been diagnosed with kidney involvement? Ask your oncologist about MM therapies that are cytotoxic to MM but may also harm your kidneys. Also ask your onc. about melatonin and enhancing kidney function.
Email me at David.PeopleBeatingCancer@gmail.com if you have any questions about managing your MM with both conventional and non-conventional therapies.
Good luck,

Melatonin Treatment in Kidney Diseases

“The renoprotective effect of melatonin has been the subject of reports in the last decade that have found that melatonin not only ameliorates sleep disorders in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) but also has a beneficial effect on blood pressure and provides protection in oxidative stress and inflammation [,,], which occur in a wide variety of kidney injuries such as

  • CKD,
  • glomerulonephritis,
  • contrast-induced kidney injury,
  • drug-induced nephrotoxicity,
  • and acute ischemia–reperfusion injury.

This review summarizes the physiology of action and the final effects of melatonin treatment in different types of kidney injuries…”
