Knowledge is Power When considering Conventional Multiple Myeloma Therapy
If you are reading this blog post, then you probably have been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, have undergone one or more conventional therapies, and are experiencing or are about to experience multiple myeloma treatment side effects.
While having a thorough knowledge of potential side effects from the chemo you undergo may be kind of scary, I believe that knowing is much better than not knowing. Keep in mind that the more you Pre-Habilitate or get in shape for your chemo the better your body can handle the toxicity from conventional therapies. Learning about possible side effects will encourage you to pre-habilitate.
Therefore it is sort of Caveat emptorwhen you are thinking about your own therapies. I am trying to say that you are on your own. Don’t rely on your oncologist to encourage you to pre-habilitate or warn you about the treatment side effects caused by whatever therapy you are considering.
Do not misunderstand me. There are times when MM patients must utilize toxic therapies. Oncology focuses on the short-term. Reducing an MMers tumor burden can be critical. I think MMers must balance both length of life and quality of life. The issue that MMers must understand is that there are integrative therapies that studies show can reduce the toxicity of a chemotherapy or even prevent a specific side effect altogether.
And those are just my long-term and late stage side effects!
All can be reduced or eliminated with non-conventional therapies. Sometimes even nutrition and lifestyle therapies can prevent collateral damage.
