Uterine Cancer- 9/11 Victim Claim Benefits
It may be more than 20 years since the terrible events of 9/11/2001, but many survivors and those who were present in the vicinity of lower Manhattan are still suffering significant health effects because of those horrific attacks.
Uterine Cancer. The dust and fumes that resulted from the destruction of the buildings that day have proven to have caused breathing and digestive conditions plus over 70 different cancers, including breast cancer, prostate cancer, and skin cancer.
By 2018, more than 10,000 people were diagnosed with 9/11 related cancer.
One specific cancer excluded
Uterine cancer is the only reproductive cancer not currently eligible for claims.
However, a team of scientists and physicians at Rutgers Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute, one of the Centers of Excellence affiliated with the WTC Health Program, last year noted that endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) likely contribute to endometrial cancer. This is one of the two types of uterine cancer.
In November 2021, the team that reviews medical evidence related to conditions that could be eligible for claim concluded that there is a “reasonable basis for adding uterine cancer to the list of 9/11-related health conditions.”
Do you have uterine cancer?
If you were a resident, office worker, student, teacher, or took some part in the rescue and recovery operations as part of the clean-up crew, volunteer, or first responder in lower Manhattan between September 11, 2001, and May 30, 2002, you may be eligible for lifetime health care plus tax-free cash payments from the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund if uterine cancer becomes eligible for a claim.
While you were completing these tasks, you were unknowingly breathing in dangerous dust, chemicals, and toxins.
The information about uterine cancer will be reviewed for up to 180 days, then a recommendation will be made to the Victim Compensation Fund Administrator who has up to 90 days to consider the advice and take proper action.
It may be as late as August 2022 before a definitive decision is made, but if uterine cancer does become eligible for claiming, the sooner you start the claims process, if you are eligible, the sooner you will receive benefits.
The amount of any pay-out is unclear at this point. But claims have ranged between $500 and $8.6 million.
