I have just been diagnosed with MGUS (monoclonal gammopathy of undermined significance) from my Kappa Light Chain, Free, Serum reading of 23.8 (range 3.3-19.4).
I was wondering what your opinion on sauna use being helpful to possibly prevent the onset of MM?
I have the same question pertaining to sitting in a hot tub (spa). Congratulations on being in submission for so many years, especially in light of what the medical literature states as the 5 year survival rate.
I am sorry to read of your diagnosis of monoclonal gammopathy of undermined significance (MGUS). I want to make sure I understand what you are saying.
You are saying that your Kappa Free Light chain is 23.8. And the normal range for a Kappa Free Light Chain test is 3.3-19.4? See the linked info below.
While a diagnosis of MGUS is difficult for many reasons, I tell pre-MM patients that they are in the pre-cancer sweet spot. By this I mean that they do not have cancer (MGUS is considered to be a blood disorder…) but their risk of a multiple myeloma diagnosis is increased.
A diagnostic marker of a kappa FLC of 23.8, while above the normal range, is still quite low. Yes, your FLC Kappa is high and yes, a diagnosis of MGUS increases your risk of MM by an estimated 1% annually, but there are many evidence-based, non-toxic therapies shown to reduce your risk of MM.
This is why I call this diagnosis the cancer sweet spot. You have an incentive to undergo anti-MM nutrition, supplementation, lifestyle therapies such as frequent, moderate exercise, whole body hyperthermia, etc. All shown by research to reduce your risk of MM. But you do not have cancer currently and you may never have cancer.

Two issues. First, whole body hyperthermia aka sauna, has been shown to sweat out heavy metals (see the article below). Heavy metals detox. can reduce your risk of MM.
Secondly, increasing your internal body temperature, according to the study linked below, has been shown to be anti-neoplastic. This is a fancy word meaning internal higher body temps can kill cancer. MM/MGUS cells have been shown to be sensitive to heat.
Regarding your question about a hot tube, my interpretation of the studies below are that the key issue is increasing a person’s internal body temperature. Whenever I have been in a hot tube, I sweat. So I would think that my internal temperature increases.

Plasma cells have heavy and light chains attached together (a “bound” chain). When they detach, you can have too many “free” light chains (or unattached chains) in your blood. This blood test is more accurate than the SERUM FREE LIGHT CHAINS test as the kidneys’ job is to keep protein.
